IAsMA Leadership
The Israel Aerospace Medical Association is guided by a leadership team with expertise in medicine, science, education, and strategic development. Together, they are laying the foundation for Israel’s national platform in aerospace medicine.

Gil Sofer, MSc
Founder, President
A senior expert in medical and scientific computing systems, Gil brings over 35 years of experience leading large-scale clinical, biomedical, and administrative technology infrastructure. He holds a master’s degree in Computer Science and provides strategic management and technological oversight for IAsMA’s development and long-term planning.
Summer Sofer, MD
Founder and CEO, COO
Summer is the visionary founder and CEO of IAsMA, and also serves as its Chief Operating Officer, overseeing the organization’s daily operations and strategic execution. A recognized leader in advancing aerospace medicine in Israel, she combines vision with hands-on management to drive IAsMA’s growth and impact. She is a former national team soccer player, holds a BSc in Physics and an MSc in Microbiology and Immunology, and completed her MD at the Technion. In 2025, she was named a Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree for her pioneering role in founding IAsMA and leading national engagement with this emerging field.


Professor Mordechai Shimonov, MD
Chairman, Board Member
Professor Shimonov is a senior surgeon and Head of Surgery at the Bariatric Center at Wolfson Medical Center. He also serves as the President of the Israeli Society of Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ISMBS). He brings decades of clinical leadership, innovation in surgical education, and a deep understanding of healthcare systems. His expertise helps bridge space health research with real-world medical applications.
Ilan Halevi, Adv.
Board Member
Ilan is a senior attorney, arbitrator, and notary with over 35 years of experience in commercial law. He holds an MBA and serves as IAsMA’s legal advisor, supporting governance, compliance, and long-term organizational stewardship.


Julia Attias, PhD
Board Member
Julia is a human and aerospace physiologist whose research focuses on spaceflight analogs and physiological adaptation. She has collaborated with NASA, ESA, and the UK Space Agency and brings expertise in scientific education, research development, and strategic planning to IAsMA.
Lt. Col. (Ret.) Dov “Dubi” Ofer
Board Member
Dubi is a retired Israel Air Force fighter pilot and captain with over four decades of aviation leadership. He graduated from IAF pilot course #75 and was among the first group of IAF pilots to integrate the F-16 into operational service. Over his distinguished career, he served as a fighter pilot and instructor, commander of the IAF’s first F-16 simulator, and operational requirements officer for advanced fighter jet projects. Following his military service, Dubi continued his aviation career as a captain with Arkia Airlines and later with El Al Airlines, where he flew Boeing 737, 757, 767, and 777 aircraft and held several headquarters positions, including Flight Safety Manager. He holds a BA in Aeronautical Engineering from the Technion and an MA in Business Management from Ben-Gurion University. His expertise bridges military and commercial aviation with operational, safety, and engineering perspectives, giving him a unique lens into aerospace medicine and strengthening IAsMA’s mission.


Dr. Linda Rubinstein, PhD
Board Member
Dr. Linda Rubinstein is a neuroscientist and Principal Investigator at the Joseph Sagol Neuroscience Center, Sheba Medical Center, and serves as Director of Research. She is also an Affiliated Principal Investigator and lecturer at Bar-Ilan University’s Gonda Multidisciplinary Brain Research Center. A former NASA Postdoctoral Fellow at Ames Research Center, her work bridges molecular neuroscience, aging, and space biology, with applications to neurodegenerative and stress-related disorders. Her research has been supported by NASA’s Human Research Program, the Israeli Ministry of Health, and major institutional collaborations. Dr. Rubinstein is a recipient of NASA’s Honor Award for contributions to the Space Omics and Medical Atlas and serves on the Management Committee of COST Action CA24108.
Sharon Ohad Molcho (Volunteer)
Director of Marketing and Business Development
Sharon leads IAsMA’s public outreach, marketing, and stakeholder engagement efforts. She supports the organization’s growth by strengthening its visibility, building strategic relationships, and developing opportunities. Sharon also contributes to internal coordination and helps align IAsMA’s mission with Israel’s broader aerospace and health innovation ecosystem.


Sky Sofer M.S.Ed.
Director of Educational Development
Sky leads the pedagogical strategy for IAsMA’s educational programs, focusing on curriculum design, instructional frameworks, and science communication across K through 12 and university levels. She holds an M.A. and B.A. in English Education and Literacy Coaching and has taught in underserved communities in New York and schools for at-risk youth in Israel. She also contributed to the Erasmus Living Labs project at Tel Aviv University, developing future-focused educational models
Dr. Kenneth Cohen, PhD
Director of Aerospace Medicine Education
Ken is the physiologist at the NASA Kennedy Space Center Biomedical Engineering and Research Laboratory and oversees NASA KSC’s medical education program. As an expert in the field, he guides content development at IAsMA. He also mentors students and supports the growth of space health education initiatives through his subject matter expertise.


Boaz Sternfeld
Director of Technical Development
Boaz is a senior lecturer and lab manager at the Technion, with extensive experience in computational systems, algorithm development, and technological innovation. He has worked closely with startups and research initiatives, bridging the gap between scientific discovery and practical application. At IAsMA, Boaz leads technical development, supporting the creation of educational technologies, research infrastructure, and innovative tools that enhance learning and engagement across the field of aerospace medicine.
Strategic Academic Advisory Committee:
IAsMA is guided by a Strategic Academic Advisory Committee composed of experienced professionals at the intersection of research, education, and aerospace medicine. This group provides essential insight on developing and integrating aerospace medicine education in Israel.
Their guidance helps shape IAsMA’s national educational direction and ensures the field is introduced thoughtfully, strategically, and with integrity. As aerospace medicine continues to influence the future of healthcare, this committee ensures that Israel is building the knowledge base needed to lead in this growing and multidisciplinary field.
